The Story of NOAHnet Click here to meet each of us. ![]() Nearly 2.6 million meals are served to over 32,000 people each year through Georgia's Older Americans Nutrition Program (OANP) and Home and Community Based Services. Nationally the OANP serves 3 million older people. These programs serve older people whose nutritional health is highly vulnerable. Research from the NOAHnet staff shows that these older adults benefit from nutrition and health promotion programs that focus on cost-effective ways to improve their eating patterns in accordance with the USDA Dietary Guidelines and the Food Guide Pyramid. NOAHnet, which stands for Nutrition for Older Adults' Health, is the result of our effort to make educational resources easily accessible to health educators who work with older adults. Development of NOAHnet began in September of 2000 and has evolved steadily since. This website contains ready-to-go nutrition education lesson plans, including scripts, handouts and activities. Lessons focus on Fruits and Vegetables, Nutrition and Bone Health, Nutrition and Diabetes, General Nutrition, and Physical Activity. The materials may be used at no charge. We only ask that you acknowledge NOAHnet as the source of the materials. NOAHnet Creators A team of experts brings NOAHnet to you from the Department of Foods and Nutrition at The University of Georgia. Our staff and advisory panel from across Georgia includes Registered Dietitians and other experts in foods, nutrition, exercise and physical activity, diabetes, pharmacy, medical technology, instructional technology, and gerontology. Additionally, many graduate students in the Department of Foods and Nutrition have conducted outcomes research that demonstrated the benefits of these nutrition and health promotion programs. We hope you enjoy using these educational materials as much as we have enjoyed developing them and working with older adults. Support We wish to acknowledge the following for their financial support of NOAHnet projects:
